I spent the day at Rollins College in an awesome nonprofit branding seminar (I’ll share some of the things I learned on the KLC blog over the next few days, if you’re into that kind of stuff).

When I got dressed this morning, I thought back to my college uniform: jeans, easy top, flip flops. I can’t really get away with that these days, especially when work sent me to the seminar to represent the organization. So I did a “grown-up” version of my college look, aiming for something that was presentable — but also comfortable for sitting in a lecture-style session for 7 hours.

It’s really entirely too hot for this outfit with heat indexes easily surpassing 100 degrees, but you can always count on Florida institutions to overcompensate with frigid air conditioning.

I'm a small town girl from the sunshine state with an affinity for bookstores, beauty counters and unfussy style. I spend my days running my flower shop, and my nights blogging about what I love and what I wear. (Or watching Netflix and drinking wine.)

  1. >I love the jeans! I'm always wearing jackets and longer sleeves in the summer as well, because here in Iowa they overcompensate for the heat too, and I freeze my tookus off if I don't dress warmer. Nautical+red accessories=WIN. My favorite color combo. :) Blog: likeunexpectedsunshine.blogspot.com

  2. >OMG! I didn't know you were local. Are you? or are you here for a workhop or planning on attending? I drive through Rollins quite often. Love your outfit today!!! Awesome combination …

  3. >I can't believe that jacket is from KMart! And great bag.As much as I appreciate a/c now that we don't have central air, it does create problems about how to dress. At least you can layer in the summer rather than just wanting to go around in a bathing suit all the time. :)

  4. >Yes, Florida with its over-air-conditioning. I live in Orlando and keep a space heater next to my desk. And use it almost every single day in the summer time. That's awful. I love the nautical vibe of this outfit! You look great!

What do you think?
