>How-To: Newsprint Manicure

>

I saw this newsprint manicure over on The Daily Nail and thought it was adorable (especially for bookworms and word lovers like myself). I did a little Google detective work to see how to recreate it, and was surprised at how easy it is! All of the tutorials I found called for vodka or other clear distilled spirits, but we were fresh out. I used isopropyl alcohol instead, and it seemed to get the job done. I tried a quick and dirty version this afternoon to share it with you:

I have never been good at nails. The last time I tried to do them, it took me four hours and an entire bottle of acetone (which is nail polish remover for our male friends). But I came across this post earlier, and think it might actually be something I’ll try. Wish me luck!

  79. thanks so much for this!!!! it looks super cool and works perfectly!!

  80. Found this on Stumbleupon, too…oh my GOSH it looks absolutely fantastic. Mine chipped and warped a little bit (that’s probably because I used old, cheap nail polish), but with that, it adds a faded, old-book feel to it. Hard to explain, but it looks fabulous. I did it on my fingers in a pinkish beige, and on my sister’s toes in a light coral-y nude. It looks fantastic! Thinking about doing a white base coat and transferring comic strips onto it… even if it were to be too big, it would add a pop-arty flair to it. Thank you SO much for making my nails look fantastic!

  86. that is really amazing , i tried it and it was really nice >>>> i even translated the post to a different language and i posted it in another website so my friends could do it ( of course i gave you all the credit and i posted a link to your original post) …. thanks .. i really love it …:)

  87. This is so cool! It looks best if you use the answers to crosswords I think. I like it better than words. Be sure to let the paint dry COMPLETELY before you put on the newspaper, and don’t press too hard. Good luck!

  88. Wow,that is a hoot! I love books and words, too. Must try that!

  97. amazing ! thnks :)

  98. I dont get what is so amazing about having backwards words on your nails? Looks like u ruined a manicure by leaning on a newspaper. That looks HORRIBLE…why would anyone do that?? Looks trashy!

  99. i did it and it was horrible i will never do this again it took so long and the ink residue got everywhere on my skin, yet the ink hardly showed up on my nails. yeah, it’s “creative” and looks cool but it definitely wasn’t worth it.

  100. I think it would look better if you put the newspaper strips on vertically. It would elongate the nail and look better as well.

  101. amazing idea , really . the first minute i saw it isaid i need to do it now . well , i though of which words could i put , i decided to take some lyrics of lady gaga’s song – hair , these lyrics mean a lot to me . another thing i did the basic polish white … really thanks a lot for your creativity and everything <3

  118. Absolutely love this! Tried it with a white nail polish as a base coat and it looks stellar!

  119. this is so cool!! I was wondering if you can do this on top of like a regular colour nail polish? i think that the pop of colour could be cool

    1. Probably! You’d just want something light enough that the newsprint will show on top.

  120. I found it easier to wet the paper with the rubbing alcohol than to wet your nail.

    1. Good idea!

  121. love this! does it come off with regular nail polish remover though?
