My mom has always had a freaky ESP with me — a kind of radar that can detect my mood across any distance. In high school, if I had a terrible day she’d call and say, “What’s wrong? What’s going on? I just had a feeling that you’re upset!” It’s amazing and weird and comforting all at the same time.
Yesterday morning was pretty rough. One of those days when personal conflicts and challenges leave you questioning yourself and feeling kind of isolated. Am I really being the best person that I can be? Does all this hard work count for anything? Where do I cross the line between my perfectionism and being approachable and a good listener? Does anyone even notice that I’m pouring everything I have into this business? Altogether pretty heavy stuff.
I spent some time on the road making flower deliveries and mulling over the morning’s events in my head, and while I was out my mom called. I called her back and the conversation went something like this:
Mom: “I bought you a gift on my lunch break today! You need to come over tonight and get it.”
Me: “You did? Why?!” {It’s neither my birthday or any other significant gift-receiving holiday}
Mom: “Because you’re so special, and you’ve been working so hard, and you just deserve it.”
Whoa. At the exact time that I was feeling terrible, she was thinking about me and decided to pick up a really nice gift to brighten my day. Moms always know
Imagine my surprise to find out that her impulse gift was this gorgeous leather Dooney & Bourke satchel in the most perfect shade of turquoise! I never splurge on luxury handbags for myself, but every so often my Mom does; always out of the blue and completely unexpected. She’s the best.

I spent about four hours at my parents’ last night, gossiping and eating and laughing about old stories. Sometimes when you’re in a funk, and the outside world makes you forget who you are, there’s nothing better than going home to re-center and remind yourself of where you came from and where you’re going.

Wanna see me turn instantly awkward? Just throw a couple of people in my shot range. Maybe these nice people thought I was a tourist taking photos outside our beautiful flower shop… “Surely this pale girl can’t be from around here? Maybe they don’t have flower shops where she’s from!”

    Flower Girl dresses is now really common in most of the wedding these days. The reason behind it is that it adds beauty to the wedding. Which cause it to become the memorable.

    > I love your new bag. And your mom.  It's true that moms always know.  They have this uncanny way of knowing about us.  I think it's because we passed right through them so we leave a mark on them and they leave a mark on us.  2 cents for the day :)

  • kelsey williams 05/18/2011 at 8:01 pm

    >My mom totally can tell (even now that she lives two hours away) when things aren't going right for me! I love the connection, although it is a bit freaky! :)
