30 for 30: Running from the Law

It’s only Tuesday, and I’ve already reached my max capacity for crazy this week. Yesterday began with some very un-fun boss business {a wise and successful friend and business owner once told me, “Owning your own business is a trip. Some days you’ll love it, and some days you’ll hate it.“} and ended with four nice policemen gathered around our shop.

Police Officer #1 enters the shop.

Keira: (in her friendliest and most charming, please-don’t-arrest-me voice) “Hi there! How can I help you?

Police Officer #1: “Is everything okay here, ma’am?”

Keira: (looking confused and feeling somewhat nervous that she will, in fact, be arrested) “I’m sorry, what?

Police Officer #1: (annoyed) “Uh, your alarm is going off.”

Keira: (hearing no alarm, nor receiving the all-too-familiar phone call from the alarm monitoring people that love to call her in the middle of the night when a vagrant balloon sets off the motion detector.) “Umm. No it’s not.

After an awkward stand-off between the two of us for what felt like an eternity, I finally convinced him that we weren’t being robbed or held hostage and that everything was safe. {blink twice if there’s a strange man in the back, ma’am…}. Then they hung out in front of the store for a while, just to be sure everything was cool. Which I’m not sure was so good for business, but whatever.

We determined — through my stellar detective skills and a few well-placed phone calls to the pros — that the silent alarm in our flower cooler was tripping every time we opened the door because of the ungodly heat we’ve had the last few days, and all was well. I politely requested that next time, the monitoring folks call me before sending out a squadron of coppers, since I’m sure they have better things to do than argue with a petite florist with control issues over whether or not her alarm is going off. And guys in uniform always make me nervous. I have this fear that I’m in trouble even though I know I haven’t done anything wrong. The fire inspector came in last week and I yelled at my husband for talking about football across the shop while he was doing the inspection. Because evidently I think you’re not supposed to talk in the presence of authority… (?)

Let’s just say that by the time I drug myself through my front door at 7pm last night, the only thing I could do was reach for a Blue Moon and cuddle with the pupster. Blogging — much less photographing myself — was out of the question. I think I was wearing something cute yesterday, but I can’t remember.

Speaking of cute, today’s nail polish is Revlon Top Speed in Lily. (I’ve been stockpiling this polish in cute summer colors, and you can buy 2 and get 1 free at Ulta right now).

I was working on some arrangements this morning (fueled by the skinny cappuccino back there) and noticed that my fingers matched my lavender roses.

It doesn’t take much to excite me, folks.

  • I have to ask; WHERE did you get your bag? I’ve been trying to find a large, cute bag for school which could hold my laptop/various books and things. Yours looks like it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for! Where did you find it?

Thanks so much! :) Your blog is great, I only just found it but I’m really enjoying it!

  • I stumbled upon your blog, and I just love it! And I love this outfit! Those sandals are tooo cute!! :)

  • the exact same thing has happened to us with our cooler system! talk about a test of patience, eh?!!! hang in there! when i start getting irritated with work, i go stand in the cooler and cuddle with my flowers to help cheer me up !!! :)

  • Hehehe Keira! You always make me smile. I’m glad you figured out what was going on with the alarm! I know some companies charge for sending the police out.

On a style note, you know I love stripes, and those sandals look darling on you!

  • I’ve set off our alarm accidentally so many times they’ve started charging us each time! It’s so easy to do when all it takes is the press of a button on my key fob. I’m glad you got your issue resolved.

I’m having a Deborah Lippmann nail polish giveaway if you’d like to enter, just click here
