I’ve worked on a lot of weddings in my time at the flower shop, but usually in a supervisory role. I consult with all the brides, come up with the vision for the designs, and work with my designers to bring that vision to life. But up until recently, I didn’t actively participate in the actual design work for weddings… I wanted to get as much practice as I could in other types of arrangements before I tackled designing for the biggest day of someone’s life. {No pressure, right?!}

I’ve spent countless hours perusing Pinterest for bridal inspiration and poring over wedding blogs to see what’s new and fabulous (100 Layer Cake and Grey Likes Weddings are two of my favorites). And in the last couple of months, I’ve really found my groove!  Last week, with my top designer as back-up in case my attempts went horribly awry, I took on my first wedding start-to-finish; from bouquets to boutonnieres, centerpieces to chair decorations, and everything in between. I’m so proud of how everything turned out, and couldn’t wait to share it with you guys!

The girls’ bouquets were made with ivory and pink roses, pink lisianthis, alstroemeria, and green hypericum, and hand-tied with satin ribbon and a sheer mauve overlay. The maid of honor’s bouquet was a little larger and had a sweet bow.

Right after our consult, the bride brought me paint swatches of her color scheme, which ended up being incredibly helpful during the design process! With so many variations of “pink” and “mauve”, it was great to know exactly which shades she had in mind. If you’re ever planning an event with a florist, bring her paint swatches and she’ll love you forever.

I made two large statement pieces to sit on pedestals on either side of the arch where they’d share their vows, and a couple of other pieces that I didn’t get great photos of, like flowers for the unity candelabra and a piece for the sweetheart table.

I was most nervous about the bridal bouquet. I always want all of our wedding flowers to be perfect, but especially the bride’s. This hand-tied bouquet was full of ivory and pink roses, pink lisianthis, and baby green hydrangea, and I was really happy with the way it turned out.

I think my favorite detail of this wedding were the pink and green pomander balls I made for the chairs. They were the most time-consuming part of the order, and while making them I panicked that I wouldn’t have enough flowers to finish all 12 (they took way more stems than I anticipated!) but I absolutely love how they turned out.

With this wedding under my belt, I feel like I’m officially a legit florist. We’re booked up with brides every weekend through the end of the year, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead!
