happy hour: the tennessee twist

happyhour2 happyhour3

Last Saturday, C and I left our four-legged child with my parents and snuck away for a night at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando. After delivering a wedding order to Seasons 52 — and enjoying the most delicious blue cheese bison burger I’ve had in mah life — we spent a luxuriously lazy afternoon sipping cocktails by the pool like fancy people. Which we’re not, but sometimes we like to pretend. ;)

C can always depend on me being indecisive, so when five minutes had passed and I still hadn’t decided which fruity frozen concoction I wanted from the poolside tiki bar, he recommended the Tennessee Twist.

“But it has Jack Daniels in it,” I protested. I hate whiskey.

“Yeah, well it’s honey whiskey and it has iced tea in it, so I think you’re going to love it. Trust me.”

Then he ordered it for me.

And he was totally right. Don’t you hate it when they’re right?

While I can’t remember exactly what was in the Tennessee Twist (and the Google has failed me in my search for the Gaylord’s recipe) I’m pretty sure it went something like this:

  • 1 oz. Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey
  • 3 oz. unsweet black iced tea
  • 3 oz. lemonade
  • a squirt of fresh lemon juice
  • Shake it all together with ice, and serve it up with a lemon wedge.

I can’t wait to mix these up at home!

  1. Whenever I have tended bar where Tennessee Twist was served, the recipe was always……..

    -Ice
    -1 shot Jack Daniel’s (Bourbon)
    -1 shot Disaronno (Amaretto)
    -Squeeze of fresh lemon
    -Mixer……Cola, or, Iced Tea

The Jack Daniel’s is the Tennessee part, the Disaronno is the twist!! ;)

  12. Bud Light … my husband is the same way. He is always ready with his drink order and I’m always left pouring (pun totally intended) over the menu.
