beauty on a budget: flower cosmetics

Drew Barrymore Flower Beauty Walmart Review

It takes something pretty special to make me cross the thresholds of big box stores. The promise of a “true luxury at mass” color cosmetics brand, available exclusively in Walmart’s beauty aisle? I’ll get my keys.

My introduction to Flower came by way of Refinery29, in a feature interview with the brand’s leading lady, Drew Barrymore. Drew’s concept is a game-changer; department store quality and luxury formulations brought to the mass market, with price points ranging from $4.98 to $13.98. The lineup includes quadruple-milled powders, highly pigmented lip and eye products, treatment-packed BB creams, and a bevy of pretty polishes with names that make my florist heart go pitter-patter.

It took eight months for the 181-piece color collection to make it to my neck of the woods (hashtag: small town problems). Last month I made a trip to my local store to scope out the goods.

I gave myself a strict budget so I wouldn’t lose my mind and buy all the things. Keep reading for a run-down on the Flower products I chose!

Drew Barrymore Flower Beauty

Win Some, Rouge Some Creme Blush in Pure Petunia: I love cream blushes for a quick swipe of color, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The blendable color is a natural flushed pink, and when I dust a little setting powder on top it lasts all day.

Shine On Lip Gloss in Hibis-Kiss: This applies lighter than it looks in the tube, and goes on as a sheer pinky-nude. It also smells like fresh garden roses, and I catch myself making duck faces to sniff it after applying. I love paring this gloss with the Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color in Tender Tuberose for a natural everyday lip that lasts.

Sheer Up Lip Tint in Dewy Rose: This is my favorite of the Flower products I purchased! It’s comparable to the texture and color payoff of the Clinique Chubby Stick at a fraction of the price.

Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color in So Gladiola, Tender Tuberose, and Flamingo FlowerI would buy every shade of this matte lipstick. Matte formulas are typically drying on my parched lips, so I like to layer these over a moisturizing balm to prevent flakiness. The colors are beautiful and highly pigmented; much more than you’d expect for seven bucks.

Nail’d It Nail Laquer in Gorgeous Gerbera and Venus Fly Trap: When paired with my favorite Essie Good to Go topcoat, my Venus Fly Trap mani lasted more than a week.

All told, I spent about $50 on the entire haul. I’ve dropped nearly as much on two tubes of department store lipstick that were less impressive. Flower products have become regular residents of my makeup bag, and I totally recommend adding them to yours.

P.S. This isn’t a sponsored post. I know I’m selling it like it’s my job, but I just legitimately love this line.

  1. There’s no doubt about the quality of this brand. Good quality in compare with other drugstore cosmetic. However the package designs are “ugly” and bulky. I’m ashamed to used it in public especially the lipstick. Flower lipstick package look like a cheap $1 lipstick which is selling at swap meet. The foundation is too bulky and ugly. I hope they consider about the changing the package designs.
