This time last year, I madeĀ a list of goals for a better 2013. They weren’t lofty promises or life-altering resolutions, but simple personal changes that did, in fact, make 2013 pretty great.
Here are a few things that stand out for me when I think about how I’ve changed in the last twelve months:
(1) Relationships: With each passing year, I have a better grip on the value of relationships and the importance of investing in the people you love. Whether it’s carving out time for weekly dinners with my parents, celebrating special occasions with my nearest and dearest, regularly calling/texting long distance friends, or spending more quality time at home with C, I’m more committed than ever to letting my favorite people know how much they mean to me. Because without them, I’d be nothin’.
(2) Work: I’ve always defined myself by my job(s), and owning my own business takes my work obsession to another level. For years, people have told me I need to find a better balance or face irreparable burn-out, and I’m finally beginning to realize they’re right. Someone recently put it all in perspective: “You’re planning on running this business for a while, right?” I nodded. “Like a long, long while?” Of course! Then they told me that if I wanted to love my career ten years from now as much as I do right this minute, I need to slow down and pace myself for the journey.
(3) Blogging: Oh man, I gave myself a lot of time off from this space in 2013. More than I intended to, honestly; but I think I needed the break to get re-inspired and really evaluate what I’m doing here. I’m growing up, and my blog is, too. I’m not 25 anymore, and eventually, I’m probably going to get tired of posting photos of what I wear.Ā In the last six months, without the pressure of styling “blog-worthy” outfits and taking perfect photos, I’ve fallen in love with a super simple aesthetic built around easy basics. Which is great, but admittedly not worth sharing.
However, I have so many other things I’d like to share around here! I’m still figuring it all out, but in 2014, you can expect to see more of my other interests and less of my mug.
Happy new year, friends!
