my 800th blog post, what?!

Holy shizz, y’all, WordPress says this is my 800th post on A Pretty Penny. While it’s not as monumental as, say, the 1000th post, I think it’s a milestone worth toasting with a good Merlot. And considering it took more than four years of semi-regular updating to hit this mark — and my recent lazy blogging habits — I may be 80 before I reach the 4-digits, so there’s that. Here’s hoping I still have things to share on on the Internet as an octogenarian. ;-)

I spent some time cruising the archives recently, thinking about what a gift it is to have a virtual time capsule of the last several years: our start at the flower shop, memories with family and friends, personal and business lessons learned… I grew up on the pages of APP under the veil of hundreds of posts about what I wore.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m growing out of this blog; at least parts of it. I’ll be honest, I have very little interest in sharing photos of my outfits every day (and most of them are so basic I doubt you’d be interested, either). I can’t regale you with Pinterest-worthy hair and makeup tutorials because I live in top-knots and tinted moisturizer. And I gave up on the idea of a regular posting schedule about a year ago, when C left the business to pursue a fulfilling career of his own and I took on the majority of the responsibility at our flower shop.

I think this is the proverbial fork in the road at which lots of bloggers decide to throw in the towel, but…

… I don’t want to stop blogging.

At all. I just want to shift my perspective a bit, admit I’m getting older and way less fancy, and write and share about the things I love. When I can. So I can look back 800 posts from now and remember who I was during this crazy time in our lives.

That’s the best part of blogging, if you ask me. Not the monetizing, stat-tracking, pinned posts, or number of social media followers; it’s the sharing.

And I still have lots to share!

  1. Love to share! Awesome thought!

  2. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually
something that I think I would never understand.
It seems too complicated and very broad for me.
I am looking forward for your next post, I’ll
try to get the hang of it!

  3. Love this post! I’m glad you’re still going to be sharing. You’re one of my favorite blogs to read.

  4. Hi, I’ve just started blogging and ran across you. Love your posts especially your book storage. My daughter is a book acholic. I may show her your photos if that’s ok with you and see if they inspire her enough to tidy up her room. Thanks :)

  5. Don’t stop blogging! :) I’m in the same boat… I’m less fashion-y and more “this is just my life…?”-y. Keep on keepin on!

  6. I completely agree with you! And well done, 800 posts is quite the number, congrats! :)

  8. I personally really enjoy your random mix of posts. I believe that’s called a lifestyle blog. Who cares if you outfits aren’t fancy and your beauty routine simple- it relates a lot more to us normal people. I am crawling around all day in basements and attics and tromping through construction sites. I need some functional outfit and simple beauty routine ideas. And who doesn’t love flowers and reading about what it takes to run a business.

  9. Congrats on making it to 800 posts! I just broke 200 a few weeks ago, so I’ve got a long ways to go…

I think it is good to shift your focus on your blog! Your life has changed, so it should reflect in your blog!

    Here’s to another 800 posts!

  10. So true. The sharing is what makes it worth it. Congratulations and I’ll toast a merlot to that! Xx

  11. How honest! :) and congrats dear :)

  12. I often re-think the “topic” of the my blog. Until I settled on the topic just being Life, and I decided that it didn’t matter if others wanted to read what I had to say, I’m going to say it anyway. Congrats on your 800th post!

  13. congrats girlfriend!! You just keep doing you :)

  14. I love your blog and am glad you will continue to grow with it. Cheers!

  15. Thank for sharing, as faithful followers of your blog we’ll take what we can get. Even your “basic” outfit give us ladies inspiration. Congratulations on your 800th post!

  18. So glad you will still be blogging! I started following the blog for the outfits, but love hearing about the struggles and triumphs of running your own business. Your effortless truth is refreshing!

  19. This why I wanted to give blogging another go. I love the idea of creating something that will last and that you can go back through. I also enjoy when bloggers write a little more off the cuff. No need to have a rigid schedule of blogging certain things. It’s your blog to do what you want with it!

  20. I’m up to my 1269th blog post – I too wonder sometimes…will I keep blogging? Its been over 8yrs now…
It does go through its ups and downs but then I get inspired and rearing to go all over again!
    Keep at it!!
    Your blog is fun!!

  21. It’s so great that you can look back on your blog and see how you’ve grown over the years.

  22. Enjoy your posts, congrats!!!

  23. Glad you aren’t throwing in the towel! I have been following you ALMOST from the very beginning, and have loved the evolution of your blog. Those historical outfit posts are always there to look back on when we need them, right? I have actually done that from time to time, because back in the day I saved lots of your outfits in my inspiration folder. But I hear ya – you can’t do that forever!

  24. That’s awesome, I hope I’m as enlightened when I reach 800 posts… Whenever that is

  25. Hi Keira – keep growing and blogging and sharing. It’s fun for us to watch you evolve too! It’s a bit like being in your own “Truman Show”. Why not tell us more about the flowers? Who grows them? What’s hot, what do you love, what’s trending? And stories about your customers and big events. Maureen – Sydney, Oz

  26. Glad you’ll still be sharing!! I love when you have a new post :)
