It’s not easy being green.

But it can be tastier than you think.

I try to get at least one green smoothie down the hatch each day. I love them in the morning as a natural energy boost and quick breakfast-on-the-go that keeps me full until lunch.

Last month, I picked up a Bella Rocket Extract Pro blender at Walmart. It’s a Nutribullet dupe at almost half the price, and so much better than my countertop blender: it easily grinds nuts and seeds, blends quickly and smoothly directly into durable BPA-free plastic tumblers (with convenient travel lids) and is super easy to clean.

{Because let’s face it, if it’s not convenient, I’ll just end up at Chik-fil-A for breakfast.}

I buy fresh organic spinach, bananas, and frozen fruit in bulk; and I keep a stock of coconut oil, ground flax, chia seeds, cacao nibs, and protein powder to mix in. For some reason, imagining I’m working with a sundae bar keeps me motivated. ;-)

I try to make different smoothies every day to keep things interesting, but lately, my favorite combo is a couple cups of spinach, a banana, 5-6 frozen whole strawberries, a little peanut butter, lots of ground flax, a tablespoon or so of honey, and cacao nibs blended with a splash of skim milk and ice.

  2. The next type of juicer is called a masticating juicer because it extracts juice using

with several features such as the following:. When compared
to a centrifugal juicer, you will see that the juices from this
masticating juicer are much darker because of the way it extracts
all parts of the vegetable instead of just the juice.

  4. thank you so much for this!!!

  5. Thank you for this post! I’ve been looking for a new blender to get back on my smoothie kick. I currently have a Ninja, which is too big and not so easy to clean. I’m going to get that Bella Rocket this weekend.

  10. Love morning green smoothies. Fresh and healthy start of the day

  11. Amazing!! Thank you for sharing this! I really need to get onto green smoothies, this is the motivation I’ve been looking for.. Thank you!!

  12. What tends to be your favorite liquid base? I used to use green tea but the flavor of the tea over powered everything else I put into the smoothie. I would like a base that adds some flavor but allows me to taste the other flavors as well.

    1. I usually use water, but sometimes I’ll use skim milk if I need a little extra protein. My dad uses coconut milk in his and really likes the flavor!

  13. I love green smoothies! I try to have one a day. Have you heard recently how they say you need to drink it with a straw to protect your teeth?

    1. I hadn’t heard that, but I use a straw for everything! ;-)

  14. I know that this is healthy and sure looks good !

  15. Recipie chart is great! Thanks for sharing!

  16. Great post! I do this at home for the whole fam, but I wing it and don’t measure and the results can be hit or miss! I like the measurement guide…so my family doesn’t have to wonder–is it going to be good today or too much of something!

    1. Haha! There have been many trial-and-error experiments in my smoothie journey. I think it helps to start with specific measurements until you get the hang of it.

  17. Love this! I’m a smoothie fan too, and green is the way to go. Sometimes I like to add frozen mango or pineapple to sweeten it up. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Frozen mango is so good!

  18. Oh Cool! Good timing! I just brought a new blender and have been looking for good breakfast smoothies to try with it. (and to use up the bulk pack of Chia seeds I brought on an optimistic whim last month!!)

  19. I really like the idea of having all your smoothie needs stock piled. I definitely need to jump on the green smoothie train. I love smoothies and sometimes I have a hard time eating breakfast, so this would be a great alternative

    1. I’ve made it part of my morning routine, and having everything stocked and organized definitely helps when I’m rushed in the AM!

  20. LOVE green smoothies! Got into juicing a couple of months ago, but this little blender you found is a great replacement for smoothies to go! Thanks for sharing.

    1. A lot of my friends juice, but I just can’t get on board with the cleanup. This blender makes everything really smooth, and it’s SO easy to clean!

  21. I love juicing and doing the same every morning however i have frozen broccoli too :-)

    1. I hadn’t even thought of adding broccoli! I’ll have to try it!

  22. Great ideas! Really helpful to have it broken down like that :)

  23. Thanks for the tip!

  24. I’m curious- do you continue this throughout the fall and winter? I get cold so easily, I don’t know that I could! Granted, Texas still has a month or so until the cold really sets in, so I’m going to be using this chart soon.

    1. I do! But I’m in Florida, and the coldest it gets is 50-ish. Usually when it’s cooler out, I drink them at home in the evenings when I can cuddle up with a blanket. This fall I might have to break out some pumpkin smoothies: http://skinnyms.com/pumpkin-spice-smoothie/

  25. Cute shorts! Will try the smoothie too!

    1. Thanks! They’re a few years old now; LC Lauren Conrad from Kohl’s.

  26. I’m going to try this! I keep hearing about green smoothies, and have been curious. Unfortunately, my curiosity has only led me to add some protein to my coffee, which at least keeps me full. This sounds good though, and a lot healthier than protein/coffee.

    1. From what I’ve read, coffee has LOTS of benefits, so you’re off to a great start! :) In fact, on the mornings I’m extra groggy, I’ll toss some coffee cubes in the blender with bananas, flax, milk, and a little peanut butter. (from this post: http://aprettypennyblog.com/2014/08/22/iced-coffee-for-dummies/ )

  27. going to have to try this out.

  28. Ooh, creating a cute bar with lots of choices for your smoothie is a great means for encouragement! I may have to try that!

    1. I’m not above tricking myself into being healthy! Ha! :)

      1. Neither am I, in fact I prefer it that way!
