Last Thursday, this giant Cuban sammich and I enjoyed a rare proper lunch break on the patio of my favorite coffee shop, under the shade of an umbrella while a breeze blew, and it was perfect. {There was also a fresh chocolate chip cookie hiding in that brown bag, so consider the sundae of sunshine and quiet time cherry-topped. ;)}
For some reason — maybe it was the gingham paper paired with the bag of classic Lays? — my lunch reminded me of my Barbie hamburger stand, which I hadn’t thought about in decades, so I spent the entirety of the break Googling, ‘Barbie play sets that came with Lays potato chips,’ until I found it; and discovered it’s fetching around $200 on eBay twenty-ish years later.
Back in the day, my Barbies left the Dream House every weekend in their casual ‘play clothes’ and rolled up to the burger stand in their pink Jeep and convertible Ferraris and Cadillacs. They grabbed a seat on tomato stools (and those tiny tables that used to come in pizza boxes?) while a shirtless Ken assembled teeny plastic patties and buns in to-go containers and served them up with miniature fries, milkshakes and sodas. And I’m pretty sure he never charged.
I kind of wish my Saturday plans looked like that.
