So Long, 2015.

My Nan used to tell me, “The older you get, the faster time flies.” (Your grandmother probably told you something similar; it’s a very grandmotherly thing to say.)

At 31, the months seem to pass at a speed somewhere around… supersonic?

Just when I got the hang of writing ‘2015’ on stuff, it’s over. And while I’m excited for the fresh start of a new year, I’m a little sad to see it go. You were a good egg, 2015!

I started the year determined to create more balance in my life, and I think I did a pretty good job following through. I made more time for rest, gave myself a good dose of grace whenever I needed it, practiced ‘not sweating the small stuff,’ and focused on nurturing a positive perspective because:

My goals for 2016 — not to be confused with resolutions; I hate those things — are pretty similar: I want to keep learning and growing, give more to others, be creative, and find joy in the simple things. Everything else will work itself out.

I’d also like to resuscitate this blog, because writing makes me happy and, you guys, I am so rusty.

I should probably exercise more, too, but… meh. ;)

Happy New Year, friends!

  10. Happy New Year! I have so many people tell me the same thing, and only being 21, time already flies fast enough. I hate it when they tell me “it only gets worse”. Oh well….I guess it teaches us to make the most of our time, right? :) Happy 2016!

I much prefer setting goals to resolutions. I have several this year, some small, some big, but overall my goals each year are similar to yours – to keep expanding my horizons and find more acceptance and beauty in the world. Cheers to 2016!

  • The only thing that would’ve made this @bonappetitmag ‘white pesto pasta’ better is if @lallimusic was in my kitchen when I made it. (I re-watched her video as I prepped, which was the next best thing.) Guys, I cannot overstate the seriousness of my obsession with the @bonappetitmag YouTube channel. Most of my bookmarks on my phone are videos of recipes I want to try, and I’m slowly making my way through ‘em; kind of like ‘Julie & Julia’ but with fewer live lobsters and a little less butter.

  • Spotted this pretty blooming bush on our evening walk through the neighborhood.
Doak got a little *too* close to the smell the flowers. 🤣
  • In today’s edition of #sundaybaking, I took on @bonappetitmag’s ‘best chocolate chip cookies’. I watched the video first — if you’re not following the @bonappetitmag YouTube channel, get on it! — then used the recipe from BA’s website to guide me through it.
Crispy edges + a chewy center + brown butter + giant chunks of 70% dark chocolate = a pretty perfect cookie. 🍪
@moroccochris - I salute you.

  • Clearance vase jackpot at @pier1 this weekend. There are so many great colors and textures in all shapes and sizes from $10-30 with an extra 25% off. ⁣
This was the ultimate test of self-control for me...⁣
I bought 5.
  • Saturday errand style f/ two #styleonabudget favorites from last summer that are still going strong: this gingham ruffle cami I found on a clearance rack at @target + a rattan circle bag I bought for around $25 on @amazon.
I’m killing the cost-per-wear game with these two. 😏 #whatiwore #ootd #summerstyle #stylefiles
