In an effort to break out of my Denim Erry-day rut, I’ve been on a hunt for versatile casual pants that I can wear to work at the flower shop, mix up for the weekend, and throw on with a blazer and pumps when I need to be “business casual” (which is honestly next-to-never these days but a girl needs to be prepared).
I had some LOFT cash burning a hole in my pocket, so I stopped in the store last week with a very specific shopping list in my head: anything but jeans.
I found these sateen leggings, which are like the lovechild of your favorite skinny jeans and softest chinos, and bought them in three colors because when I find something that works I stockpile like it’s end-times. I once had three pairs of these leather flip flops at once; I love a good basic and like my backups to have backups. ;)
Back to the pants: If you’re familiar with LOFT’s pant sizing, these sateen leggings are the ‘Marisa’ fit, which are cut straight through the hips and waist. I usually prefer their ‘Julie’ and ‘Curvy’ fits, and had to go up two sizes from what I typically buy in their jeans to get these to fit comfortably.
They’re mid-rise and sit right at the top of the hips — I’d love if they were just a hair higher to nip in the waist, but that’s a minor gripe — and have a good amount of stretch that helps them hold their shape all day. The regular length has a 29″ inseam, so I have to give them a couple small rolls to get them just above my ankle for booties, flats and heels; un-cuffed, they’re the perfect length for boots.
Dark gray skinnies have been on my shopping list for a while, and these are a comfy alternative to denim. I also picked up a black pair — my favorite under-$50 hi rise ankle jeggings are on their last leg and need to be replaced soon — and an olive pair because I just can’t seem to get enough mossy green in my closet these days.
LOFT is offering 30% off these sateen five pocket leggings right now if you want to try them yourself. The comments on LOFT’s website seem to echo my sizing issue, so I recommend going up two sizes if you’re curvy and ordering online.
