Play! by Sephora Beauty Box Update

Sephora Play Box Review | keiralennox.com

I’m four months into my Play! by Sephora beauty box subscription, and I thought I would do an update on my introductory post to let you guys know how it’s going, and whether it’s worth 10 bucks a month.

In a word: YASSSS!

I look forward to finding my black-and-white striped box in the mail around this time each month. It’s a great way to discover new makeup and skin care: I’ve purchased full sizes of at least one product from each box after using the deluxe-size samples to the last drop. Stand-out favorites from previous boxes are the Caudalie Resveratrol Lift Eye Balm, Dr. Jart Water Drop hydrating moisturizer, and Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. All of the mini makeup products end up in my to-go makeup kit in my handbag.

Each month’s samples are curated around a theme, and October is The Cool Cut: breakthrough formulas, indie finds, and “of-the-moment must-haves.”

My box included two fall lippies — one from Nudestix, a minimalist line of multi-tasking pencils created by two young sisters that’s been on my “to try” list for a while — plus two skin care products and a leave-in hair mist from a new indie brand out of Austin.

Each box also comes with a bonus fragrance, and this month it’s Tom Ford’s Orchid Soleil : an Oriental floral that’s heavy on the tuberose and lily, but warmed up with peppercorn, vetiver, clove and vanilla. If you’re into floral-forward scents, this one’s beautiful and not too sweet; it settles into a lovely warm base that’s perfect for fall.

The Play! boxes are in high demand, so there may be a waitlist to subscribe, but put your name on the list and keep an eye on your inbox for notice when your spot is available. Then, scoop it up!

  6. Ahh, I haven’t received mine yet but I was on the waiting list for months before I finally got to sign up! I am so excited for everything this month, I love that everything is such nice brands, none of those obscure ones like in other beauty boxes! I also love all the perks with Sephora Play!!

    1. I have the same question as you lol

  9. I’m on month 4 of my Play! too. I’m liking it a lot. I cancelled Ipsy to get this and I don’t regret my decision at all.

    1. I just cancelled my ipsy for this too and by the looks of this box it’s the best decision I’ve made in a while!

      1. Why did you decide to cancel Ipsy? For me, I decided that I hadn’t used a product they sent in a couple months. So I thought it was just wasting my money.

        1. I found the colors and brands of the products to be ones that I didn’t really use very often. I got things like neon pink liquid lipstick which I loved the formula of but the color was so off I never wore it. I felt the same, like I was wasting my money. With Sephora play the products are more general and suited to more people which I love! I like getting more “basic” products like leave in conditioner and eye cream! That’s why I get these, to try new versions of staple products not try to break myself out of my habits.

          1. I think it was the multiple black eyeliners that put me over the edge. HAHA

          2. I have definitely gotten more than my fair share of those myself!

  10. There are some great products in this box, I’m very jealous!

I’m a Birchbox subscriber – absolutely love the little surprises that come monthly. Like you, I add the small products to my handbag, or even on my desk at work.

  12. Looks like you got some great products! I use to have a BirchBox subscription, and have been missing it lately! I’ll have to check this out!
