My weekday makeup aesthetic is really simple. I’m all about healthy glowing skin that’s warmed up with bronzer and highlighted with a little low-maintenance strobing — my two favorite highlighting products that are all shine and no glitter: this palette and this fresh glow fluid — plus filled and tamed brows, a quick swipe of rosy blush, and a nude lip.
For my eyes, I usually stick to neutral cream formulas that I can apply quickly with my fingers, with a little tight-line on my top lashes and a good coat [or two] of mascara. Bold eye shadow palettes and colorful eyeliners scare the bejeezus of me, so when Influenster sent me my first VoxBox with a bright purple eyeliner, my first thought was, “What am I going to do with this thing?”
I turned to my Pinterest beauty board for inspiration, and found a photo of Cara Delevigne wearing a clean and simple makeup look with a pop of bright teal liner on her lower lash line. Eureka!
To start, I applied the Lancôme Visionnaire Yeux eye balm under my eyes and lightly on my lids to moisturize and prime the eye area. I used Make Up For Ever’s HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation as a base; I love the natural-looking, flawless coverage. I warmed my skin up with Too Faced Chocolate Soleil matte bronzer, and filled in my brows with Anastasia’s ‘Perfect Brow’ pencil. I used Maybelline Color Tattoo in ‘Bad to the Bronze’ all over my lids as a base, then tight-lined my upper lash line with the Lancôme Drama Liqui-Pencil in black, and ran the same pencil in ‘Ampoule’ along my bottom lash line. I finished my eyes with the cult classic Lancôme Définicils High Definition mascara in black. The effect is really subtle and eye-brightening, and the purple pulls a lot of green in my blue-green eyes.
Some thoughts on the Lancôme products:
- The eye balm is a nice base for the eye area and wears well under makeup. I’ve found that concealer and/or foundation glides on really well over the balm, and I don’t need a powder to set the area afterwards.
- I really enjoy the Drama Liqui-Pencils. They glide on like a creamy gel — no tugging or dragging — with lots of pigment, and set to a long-wearing finish that stays put all day. The black stayed in my waterline without transferring or fading, and the purple stayed bright and pigmented until I washed it off at the end of the day.
- The Définicils mascara is great if you’re looking for “your lashes but better” with natural definition and length. It doesn’t flake or smudge, and goes on without a clump. If you like your lashes with lots of volume and oomph, this formula may not be for you.
