My Favorite Long-Wearing Lip Color

Fun fact: one of my favorite forms of retail therapy is wandering around Sephora, swatching pretty lip colors up my forearms and treating myself to something new. Some people unwind with a cocktail at happy hour; I buy fancy lipstick.

NARS Powermatte Pigment
The NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments have a pointed doe-foot applicator, which allows for precise application around the lip line; you can skip lip liner and still get perfect definition. (So important with a bold shade!)

I picked up the NARS Power Matte Lip Pigment in the bright red-orange shade, Light My Fire, on Emily of Cupcakes & Cashmere’s recommendation, and loved the formula so much I added a few more shades to my stash over time.

Here’s why I’m officially hailing the NARS Power Matte Lip Pigments as My Favorite Long-Wearing Lip Color Of All Time (!!):

  • These babies are crazy pigmented, with intense color payoff that lasts for hours: I can apply it in the morning and not think about it until after lunch. One swipe gives full, opaque coverage.
  • The color fades pretty evenly, unlike other liquid lipsticks I’ve tried that flake off and get patchy after several hours of wear. By the afternoon, I usually just dab a bit of clear agave lip balm over top to blend out the color and I can stretch it a few more hours.
  • Speaking of other liquid lipsticks: if you’ve tried them, you know they can be really drying and unpleasant to wear. The NARS Powermatte formula is super lightweight — it’s almost watery out of the tube and applies like ink on the lips — so it feels light and comfortable. However, it is a matte formula, so it’s still a bit drying after a full day of wear; I like to use this overnight agave lip mask to rehydrate after using this or any other matte lipstick.
They recently released duo sets of minis in their most popular shades, and I love the set of warm nudes; especially the terra cotta shade Hot Blooded. The size is perfect to toss in my bag, and I’ll honestly probably never get through a full size anyway.

Light My Fire is the perfect bold lip for spring. I love to wear it with bronzed-up skin and a good coat of mascara. It’s one of those fun, bold colors that does all the work in a look: it’s just as awesome paired with a black cocktail dress as it is with a casual white tee and jeans, and I’m all about it.

As always, I recommend checking out Temptalia for swatches of the full color collection!
