Help, I Can’t Stop Buying Leather Mules!

My journey to the Nisolo summer sale began with Dearly Bethany‘s video about how to make a petite frame look taller:

These are all styling tricks I use myself, and I find the way she presents them step-by-step in this video so helpful for the viewer; it’s incredible to see how a few little tweaks can totally transform your proportions!

In this video, Bethany mentioned her love of the ‘Sarita’ sandal, a spring/summer sandal with a leather ankle-strap and sturdy wood wedge. I headed to the Nisola site to check them out and — woo-hoo! — they’re having a sale.

I did a little poking around their website to learn more about the brand, and loved what I found:

• Nisolo’s vision is “to push the fashion industry in a more sustainable direction–where success is based on more than just offering the cheapest price–a direction that not only values exceptional design, but the producer and the planet just as much as the end consumer.”

• All Nisolo producers receive, at a minimum, beyond fair trade wages, healthcare, and a healthy working environment. Your purchase enables them to create opportunity for over 500 people across their supply chain.

• For every pair of Nisolo shoes sold, a contribution is made to help protect forests in the Amazon Basin.

• Through Nisolo’s collaboration with the Soles4Souls shoe reclamation program, you can send Nisolo your worn and used shoes and they’ll give them to micro-entrepreneurs in developing countries; enabling them to clean, repair and resell the shoes in their communities (learn more here).

I still have a ways to go with improving my shopping habits to create a more sustainable, ethically-sourced wardrobe — see: The Apparel Industry’s Environmental Impact in 6 Graphics — but companies like Nisolo and Everlane make it easy for me to find timeless basics that I can feel good about purchasing.

Since my love of a leather mule still burns strong, I snagged the Paloma in ‘sand’ nubuck from the Nisolo sale. There were lots of other styles I loved, too, and I rounded them all up below. (Just click the images to shop.)
