If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to add a little autumn to your makeup routine, may I recommend these $10 lipsticks? I spotted them on display at Walgreens last month and loved the shade range; I couldn’t resist grabbing a couple to try, and I went back for two more the next afternoon.
Let’s talk about the formula: the new L’Oreal Colour Riche Ultra Matte Lipsticks are super pigmented and offer full coverage with one swipe, but you can also dab them on with a finger for a blotted, lived-in look (which is my favorite way to wear them in my minimal makeup routine). If you’re matte-averse because you hate a dry, chalky lipstick *hand-raising emoji* you’ll love these: the formula contains ‘silky oils’ that add some hydration, so they’re lightweight on the lips and comfortable to wear.
These aren’t the longest wearing lippies, but I find they last for several hours; they need a touch-up after eating, but the oils in the formula make them easy to reapply and layer without getting bunchy or cracked. (If you’re familiar with dry matte lipsticks, you know what I’m sayin’.)
I swatched the new MAC Powder Kiss lipsticks in store last week — they’re marketed for “delivering a romantic blur of soft-focus color; this weightless, moisture-matte lipstick was developed to replicate a backstage technique: blending out edges of matte lipstick for a hazy effect” — and I find the L’Oreal Colour Riche Ultra Matte Lipsticks to be comparable in texture, finish and color for half the price. (Although I really wanted to get my hands on the Powder Kiss in ‘Mull It Over’ but it was sold out.)
I don’t think you’ll find a bad shade in the lineup, which includes a range of flattering ‘your-lips-but-better’ nudes for all skin tones, but I’m in love with these four for the season. I’m especially partial to Passionate Pink; I spent months searching for something just like it — a warm pink with a touch of peach — and it’s a new favorite in my everyday routine.

The best part: drugstores are always running a sale on beauty, so wait until you catch a L’Oreal BOGO and stock up! I bought all four at Walgreens for $20 during a sale, which is less than a single tube of most of my Sephora favorites.
