Friday’s Five

Goldendoodle napping on a couch with a blanket and pillow. Lit Christmas tree and colorful book case in the background.

Happy first week of 2019, friends! We snuck a couple more days into our holiday break before it’s back to reality and a fresh new year. (Because who could resist a little extra lazy time with the king of cozy couch hangs up there?) Shoutout to my flower shop fam, who are holding it down while I pretend I’m retired; I promise I’m coming back to work eventually, guys.

Magazine spread in WH Magazine featuring Lasater Flowers, with a photo of various floral designs in front of a brick wall.

So this actually happened before the holiday last month, but with all the Christmas craziness at home and work, I just got around to sharing it this week: we’re totally smitten with our feature in WH Magazine, shot by Tina Sargeant.

I must confess that I haven’t actually read the article. I have a weird thing about publicity and awards and basically any kind of attention (which is extra odd because I share my life on the Internet?) but it’s an important part of owning a small business and spreading the gospel of your skills, so I smile awkwardly through the photo shoots and pretend no one’s ever going to see them.

I wore these Everlane high-waist skinnies for the 3/3 days I left my house this week; I’m wearing them currently as I sit on my sofa and bang out this blog post. I’m completely obsessed with these jeans (and the same style in washed black) and for less than $70 a pair, my cost-per-wear for these babies should be pennies by the end of the year.

They’re far and away the most comfortable pair of high-rise skinnies I own: they have just enough stretch to move with you all day and hold their shape through lots (and lots) of wear; trust me on this one.

#OOTD details: My tote bag on the left is the Cuyana structured leather tote; the cognac leather bag on the right is by Neva Opet (we have one left in the shop if you’re local!); my denim jacket is from Madewell (it runs small, so size up); the leather ballet flats are go-to favorites that I mentioned in a recent post (currently on sale for $32 at Macy’s); and my clear glasses are the ‘Chelsea’ frames from Warby Parker.

Avocado toast on sourdough with a side of fresh strawberries on a ceramic plate on top of a colorful floral print placemat.

I’m dipping my toe back into eating like an adult after a month of subsisting on cheese, chocolate, every baked good I could get my hands on, and enough bread to fill a small bakery.

This is my favorite easy breakfast at home (that I just enjoyed this morning): sourdough toast topped with fresh avocado, salt + pepper and chili flakes. Is there a little Kerrygold salted butter on that toast, too? Maybe.

I also drank a giant iced coffee with it, so I’m bouncing off the walls and should probably use some of this energy to clean my house, but I’ll probably watch Netflix instead and pretend I have zero responsibilities for just one more day.

And just like that, the holidays are behind us and we’re on to spring vibes at the flower shop. I popped into Michael’s yesterday to pick up supplies for our next window display and focused really hard on not buying all the things; like these adorable little pink pig picks!
