Style Files: I’m A Capsule Wardrobe Convert

We’re nearly halfway through my 30×30 remix, and at this point, I think I could happily live out the rest of the summer with this pared-down wardrobe. Leslie shared a post about her own capsule wardrobe experience on Cupcakes & Cashmere yesterday, and I’m inspired by her process: she evaluated every piece in her closet with a critical eye; then edited her wardrobe down to 36 well-loved pieces; and sold the rest on Poshmark.

Although I’m much more intentional about shopping in my mid-30s than I was in my 20s, I still buy way more than I need and probably only wear about 50% of what’s in my closet. At the end of last summer, I packed up all my warm weather stuff and stored it out of reach as an ‘out-of-sight, out-of-mind’ experiment; I wanted to see if it would feel fresh and ‘spark joy’ the following year. I brought it all down at the start of the spring, and although it felt like a free shopping spree, the truth is, I didn’t reach for any of it through the last several months. Instead, I bought new stuff to add to the mix, invested in a few designer accessories to elevate my basics, and wore my same favorite pieces on repeat.

After more than two weeks of getting dressed from a little rolling rack in the laundry room for this 30×30, I’m thinking of taking a page from Leslie’s book to declutter some of the ‘filler’ from my closet and seriously commit to seasonal capsule wardrobes, a la The Anna Edit or JessAnn Kirby. We’ll see how I feel about it at the end of the challenge.

Now on to the latest roundup of remixed outfits from my 30×30!

These weekday outfits are from June 18th – June 26th. I’m sticking to my rule from last week of only wearing my distressed skinnies once a week (I’d literally wear them every day otherwise) and I’m working on getting the rest of the 30 pieces incorporated into outfits through the next week; there are 3 tops, a denim skirt, and 2 pairs of shoes that I haven’t worn yet.

And because remixes get more fun as you progress and show more outfits, I’m including last week’s outfit gallery, too.

If you’re interested in any of the outfits I’m wearing, I rounded up links to the exact pieces that are still available online, as well as similar items to help you shop.
