After nearly a decade (!!) of documenting my style evolution on this blog, I’ve settled into a simple aesthetic built around classic wardrobe staples I love. I really jive with the idea of a daily uniform, and I’m happiest with an edited closet of neutrals, denim, structured outerwear and quality accessories. I recently realized that I wear a variation of 5 different easy outfit combinations through the week.
There’s nothing revolutionary here, but I thought these combinations were worth sharing. Maybe you’re trying to figure out your own style, or you need a few closet ‘recipes’ in your back pocket for the mornings you’re in a rush. (Any other non-morning people in the house?) These basic combos always work.

Double Denim

I’m a long-time fan of the denim tuxedo, and have a variety of denim and chambray shirts in my closet to throw together super simple outfits just like this. I think the trick to making doubled-up denim look polished is to match the tones of denim on the top and bottom (dark/light blue, washed black, etc.) and add a pop of print/color with accessories.
In this photo from last week, I’m wearing an old favorite super-soft chambray shirt from m.marie. I paired it with my high waist Levi’s skinnies and Loeffler Randall velvet mules.

Put A Blazer On It

Guys, I love this look. You just can’t go wrong with a good pair of jeans and a sophisticated blazer. I usually layer them over a silky camisole or fitted tee. To balance proportions, I pair long, fitted blazers like this with skinny jeans. Boxy boyfriend blazers go well with skinnies or high waist straight leg jeans that are slightly cropped. And shorter blazers/jackets that hit around the waist balance well with straight or wide-leg bottoms.
I recommend stocking your closet with at least 3 blazers: one navy, one black, and one gray plaid. They’ll go a long way in your wardrobe remixing!

Blackout

The older I get, the more I understand women who wear black clothing exclusively. It’s slimming, chic and so effortless. I always feel put-together in a monochromatic black outfit, and it suits my spill-prone clumsiness and #floristlife.
I usually try to spice up an all-black outfit with fun accessories; like a statement shoe or handbag, or layered gold jewelry. My weekday iterations usually include black denim. I rounded up my top picks for affordable black (and washed black) jeans below. High-waisted, of course.

The Classic

You’ll never go wrong with a timeless button-down and jeans. H&M is my top destination for affordable cotton and linen shirts, and I buy them a few sizes up for a relaxed boyfriend fit. (I also have backups of a couple of the white shirts I love because it’s just a matter of time before I stain them irreparably. Which is why I don’t get spendy in the white shirt department.)
Do you guys have go-to easy outfit combinations or ‘uniforms’ that you love? Share them in the comments!
Ok, you do denim on denim better than anyone I know!
I have a very similar uniform to yours – I just sub in skirts for the office!
Yes! All of these work perfectly with skirts or trousers in an office setting!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE all of these combos. So basic, but so chic. My favorite might be that pop of leopard under the blazer. : )
Thanks, Julie!!
