My Best Wardrobe Investments Of The Year

Coffee shop flat lay with Ray-Ban hexagonal sunglasses, Cuyana small zip around wallet, and cappuccino

I’m back! November went by in a blink. Between a busy month at the flower shop, seasonal celebrations with friends and family, and Thanksgiving preparations, the blog took a backseat. (Oops!) Today, instead of giving you another blogger roundup of Black Friday sales, I thought I’d sit down with a generous slice of leftover sweet potato pie and a cup of coffee and tell you about six of my best wardrobe investments of the year; a few of which you can score at a discount this weekend.

Keep reading for my 2019 style staples that were worth every penny.

Loeffler Randall Celeste Velvet Knot Slides

A note before we start: my best style hack is to keep my everyday outfits super basic (usually high waist denim + a tee/button-down shirt/easy sweater) and level them up with unique, high-end accessories. With that in mind, most of my wardrobe splurges are shoes, handbags, jewelry and outerwear.

Loeffler Randall ‘Celeste’ Mules ($140, on sale)

I bought these velvet mules on Farfetch for 60% off and they’re probably my #1 purchase of 2019. They’re super comfortable, go with everything, and add a pop of color to basic outfits. I wear them at least twice a week, so I’m killing it on the cost-per-wear.

My mules are a discontinued seasonal color from last year, but you can find a deeper raspberry pink here. Amazon also has a similar style on sale in red velvet with a bamboo-inspired heel. I’m hoping Loeffler Randall plans to re-release the style in fresh colors for spring. I’d love to catch them on sale again, but will happily fork over full price if necessary. (They’re that good.)

SHOP: Loeffler Randall ‘Juno’ Mules

Loeffler Randall ‘Juno’ Mules ($350)

If I had to pick one trend obsession I took to new heights this year, it’s mules/slides. At least 75% of my shoe purchases in 2019 were slip-ons. I’m all about something chic and easy that I can slip my foot into and run out the door.

When I saw these Loeffler Randall velvet leopard mules with a metal circle heel on their Instagram, I bought them immediately. They’re the most expensive shoe purchase I’ve ever made, and in my opinion, totally worth it.

MANGO Leather Biker Jacket ($200)

I wanted to upgrade my several-years-old faux leather biker jacket after wearing it to death, and set my sights on finding a real leather version with a simple cut; a wardrobe staple for the long haul. Anna recommended this one for its super-soft leather and light gold hardware, and I’m so happy I bought it. This leather biker jacket has a boxy shape that’s slightly cropped, and soft sleeves that I can push up for a casual vibe.

It’s on sale at Macy’s for $139.99 today.

Italian Snakeskin Shoulder Bag ($250)

One morning, while getting ready for work, I got a text from my friend, Wendy. Her neighbor was in Italy at a handmade leather handbag showroom, and knowing how much I love great bags, Wendy wondered if I’d like her to arrange for her to bring a bag home for me. It was the best surprise, and after looking at lots of photos of all the beautiful Italian bags on offer, I selected this snakeskin shoulder bag. I love the vintage 90s silhouette, and it feels really special to have this rare, unique piece.

Ray-Ban Hexagonal Sunglasses ($150)

Another blogger-influenced purchase! I spotted these Ray-Ban hexagonal sunglasses in Alix’s ‘Most Worn In My Wardrobe in 2018‘ video, and cashed in some Amazon rewards to buy them. They were my go-to daily sunglasses all year. They’re a classic style with modern details; which is basically my aesthetic in a nutshell.

You can get them for $107 on an Amazon Black Friday deal!

Cuyana Structured Leather Tote ($195)

Technically, this leather tote joined my wardrobe at the end of last year. C started a tradition a few years ago: he buys me a new Cuyana bag for my birthday every year, and the structured leather tote was last year’s gift. It was my workhorse bag through 2019; the perfect everyday carryall work tote. (I bought the organizer insert to go inside to give the bag more structure and pockets.) If you prefer a smaller profile, they released a small structured tote this year.

I can’t say enough about Cuyana’s construction and quality. I fill my tote to the brim every day — and throw it around my car and office — and it still looks brand new.

(For this birthday, I got the zippered satchel tote in green!)

Cuyana doesn’t offer a Black Friday discount, but for each order completed online today, they’ll donate one of the pieces from their collection to their Lean Closet partners atย H.E.A.R.T, part of the Violence Intervention Program.

  1. […] The grand finale — and biggest splurge — of my best Amazon sunglasses: my hexagonal Ray-Bans. The geometric frames are a great option if you want something classic but a little unexpected. (If you ask me, great style is all in the details.) I bought them in 2019 and they’re still one of my best wardrobe investments. […]

  2. Every thing is beautiful just like you ! Pray that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving !

    1. Happy Thanksgiving, Carolina!
