Editors Note: I first shared this post two years ago, but it feels like a great time to give it a bump from the archives. My original scrubber is still going strong, so it was 8 bucks well spent!
I hesitate to call beauty products ‘life-changing’ on this blog, but this $8 silicon scalp scrubber* is pretty close. I bought it on Amazon* after reading a review for a similar product on The Stripe, and from the first time I used it, I was hooked.

I have a lot of hair + a fussy scalp that’s prone to bouts of mild dermatitis. My scalp issues improved a lot when I took sulfates and heavily-fragranced products out of my routine and stopped coloring my hair, but I still battle everyday product buildup and struggle with getting my hair squeaky-clean at the root. I’ve tried exfoliating scrubs, clarifying shampoos, and good ol’ elbow grease with several lathering sessions in one shower, but it seemed like I couldn’t get a consistent, satisfying deep clean.
Enter the silicon scalp scrubber*. Game: changed.

Those little silicon spikes are soft and flexible, but just tough enough to get right into the roots of your hair to scrub away flakes and buildup. I worried the spikes would tangle my wet strands, but if I use a back-and-forth motion and work in sections around my head, I don’t have any issues; the handle makes it easy to grip and control.
I’m sure this scalp scrubber* will supercharge any of your favorite shampoos, but here’s the hair double-cleansing routine that I’m currently loving: first, I wash my hair with a gentle clarifying shampoo, like Davines Solu or Bumble & Bumble Sunday shampoo*; then I apply a little of the Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo* to the areas that are prone to flakes and buildup (around the hairline and at the crown) and use the scalp scrubber all around my head to to help the exfoliators really get in there; then I finish with a light conditioner, like the Briogeo Blossom & Bloom Volumizing Conditioner*. I do this about twice a week for a deep clean, and use a gentle volumizing shampoo* through the rest of the week if needed.

Happy scalp scrubbing!
This sounds like a great routine. I’ve been seeing these scalp scrubbers everywhere…. I think I need to try one!
