double the denim

I love denim on denim: it’s simple and effortless, a no-brainer when you feel like you have “nothing to wear,” and most important, it’s all kinds of comfortable. I think the trick to pulling it off in a polished way is picking quality pieces, and mixing shades and textures on the top and bottom. It’s easy to get denim shirt fever and end up with a dozen variations in your closet. But when it comes down to it, two is plenty: a boyfriend-fit long sleeve button down that can do double duty as a shirt and jacket, and a short sleeve chambray tee.

creative storage for book hoarders

My book hoarding is reaching new heights lately; both figuratively and literally. All the bookshelves in my home are at maximum capacity and there are stacks of hardbacks growing like stalagmites from my dining room floor. Our home collection kind of exploded last week after, sadly, my favorite used bookstore shuttered its operations. But not before having a $1 sale on their entire inventory. I went a little nuts… Also, a sweet friend recently delivered an old black Jansport overflowing with hardbacks — from some of my favorite authors, luck of all luck — to the flower shop. It was a happy day. Should you ever find yourself with a surplus of reading material and no place to unload it, I will gladly adopt it like a shelter puppy. So what I’m trying to tell you is, I’m becoming the crazy cat lady, but I’m stockpiling books instead of felines? Since our living space is relatively small with an open floor plan, I’m going to have to get crafty with ways to stash my stacks. I don’t …

overalls, all grown up.

Coveralls, bibs, dungarees; whatever you call ’em, you probably either love ’em or hate ’em. I’m in the overall enthusiast camp; probably because I grew up in the 90’s and spent most of my childhood buckled up in their comfy, practical awesomeness. This spring, a great pair of stylish grown-lady coveralls is on my wish list. I think they’d be perfect for running around the flower shop with cute sneakers and a tee, or on girls night with a black crop top — just a peek of skin on the sides — and simple heels. I’m looking for a slimmer fit in dark denim, like these Black Orchid Skinny Overalls or the Current Elliot Ranch Hand Overalls. Of course, I’m hoping to find something much more budget friendly. I’ll keep you posted on that quest. These ladies know how to make overalls appropriate beyond the playground (from left to right): Alexa Chung’s airport style; Street style in stilettos and a sleek coat; Elaine Welteroth in black overalls and chambray; Tuula Vintage in a simple striped tee; Where …
