In Search Of Cute Kicks

In Search Of Cute Kicks

Keds Tournament Mono SneakerIn the latest installment of Things I’m Too Old For Now: I can’t get away with wearing my beloved leather flip flops and flimsy ballet flats to work anymore. We have concrete floors throughout the flower shop, and after long days on my feet, my arches are shot. I know the lack of support is terrible for my legs and back, but up until recently, my desire for cute outfits was greater than my respect for ergonomics.

I’m just not a sneaker person; for years, I only had one shabby pair that I kept around for walking the dog or outside chores.  But these days — *cough* 30s *cough* — comfort is king, and I’m warming up to the look of vintage-inspired trainers paired with straight leg ankle jeans and a tee, and summer dresses dressed-down with easy slip-on sneakers.

I bought a pair of knit Skechers trainers before Mother’s Day, and spent the entire holiday week proclaiming my newfound foot comfort to my team (bless their hearts.) And now I’m on a mission to add a few more options to my closet that combine fashion and function with cute details like perforated suede, metallic leather, throwback silhouettes, and animal print.

I rounded up some of my current favorites below, and you can click the images to shop ’em! (You can find the blush high-tops at the top of the post here.)

My Top 10 LOFT Cyber Monday Picks

My Top 10 LOFT Cyber Monday Picks

I was going to tell you to run to and snag this sweater before the holiday weekend sale-a-palooza ends, but alas, it’s sold out. {womp-womp}.

I’m really loving LOFT lately; it’s my go-to destination for versatile basics and cute casual pieces for work. Everything is 50% off during their Cyber Monday sale — including sale items — so I rounded up 10 of my favorite LOFT picks, from my own closet and my shopping cart, that are still available online. Just click the images to shop! (Full disclosure: sizing is limited on a few of these.)

Sweaters & Jackets

I love this throw-it-over-anything cozy cardigan. It’s super soft, and feels like you’re wrapped in a blanket. I wear mine over tees with my favorite hi-rise black skinnies.
This drape-front sweater was on my wish list for a while, so I happily scooped it up with a birthday gift card earlier this month.
I could use a casual jacket in my closet this winter, and like the color and faux fur detail of this easy anorak.

I love everything about this: the warm white color, subtle texture, and easy fit; this is exactly the kind of top I want to live in this season.
I don’t have any off-the-shoulder tops in my closet, but I’m on board with the trend (in moderation).
This feels really versatile: I love the way it’s styled simply here with jeans, and it would work just as well with a pencil skirt or velvet skinnies for a holiday party.

Jeans & Pants

I love these pants so much I bought them in five colors. Now’s the perfect time to stockpile them while they’re on sale. (A note: they’re cut slim through the hips; I went up two sizes from what I typically wear in their jeans.)
These straight cropped jeans would be a nice alternative to black skinnies with ankle boots and sweaters.

Dresses & Skirts

I bought this dress in solid black to wear to my husband’s high school reunion, and I love how versatile it is. It’s the perfect day-to-night LBD.
Casual day dresses are on my winter wardrobe wish list, and this feels like the perfect “swingy” frock for ankle boots, ballet flats, sweaters, and scarves this season.

Florida girls be like: it’s 75 degrees outside, where my boots at?!

We still have a while before we feel any fall weather that lasts past lunchtime around here, so my summer pieces are still in heavy rotation. I bought this LOFT tweed wrap skirt on sale last month — versatile skirts have been on my shopping list — and I thought this one could transition into fall and winter with easy sweaters and denim shirts.

New LOFT Sateen Leggings

New LOFT Sateen Leggings

In an effort to break out of my Denim Erry-day rut, I’ve been on a hunt for versatile casual pants that I can wear to work at the flower shop, mix up for the weekend, and throw on with a blazer and pumps when I need to be “business casual” (which is honestly next-to-never these days but a girl needs to be prepared).

I had some LOFT cash burning a hole in my pocket, so I stopped in the store last week with a very specific shopping list in my head: anything but jeans.

I found these sateen leggings, which are like the lovechild of your favorite skinny jeans and softest chinos, and bought them in three colors because when I find something that works I stockpile like it’s end-times. I once had three pairs of these leather flip flops at once; I love a good basic and like my backups to have backups. ;)

Back to the pants: If you’re familiar with LOFT’s pant sizing, these sateen leggings are the ‘Marisa’ fit, which are cut straight through the hips and waist. I usually prefer their ‘Julie’ and ‘Curvy’ fits, and had to go up two sizes from what I typically buy in their jeans to get these to fit comfortably.

They’re mid-rise and sit right at the top of the hips — I’d love if they were just a hair higher to nip in the waist, but that’s a minor gripe — and have a good amount of stretch that helps them hold their shape all day. The regular length has a 29″ inseam, so I have to give them a couple small rolls to get them just above my ankle for booties, flats and heels; un-cuffed, they’re the perfect length for boots.

Nine West Tatiana Navy Suede Pumps

Dark gray skinnies have been on my shopping list for a while, and these are a comfy alternative to denim. I also picked up a black pair — my favorite under-$50 hi rise ankle jeggings are on their last leg and need to be replaced soon — and an olive pair because I just can’t seem to get enough mossy green in my closet these days.

LOFT is offering 30% off these sateen five pocket leggings right now if you want to try them yourself. The comments on LOFT’s website seem to echo my sizing issue, so I recommend going up two sizes if you’re curvy and ordering online.
