My Week In Easy Summer Outfits

We’re back for week 2 of my easy summer outfits diary. If you missed last week’s style files, I’m bringing my real-life weekday OOTDs back to the blog. The goal is to get creative with remixing my already well-stocked wardrobe, and stop buying new stuff I don’t need. Fewer, better things, friends!

On to this week’s outfits! (Minus Monday, because I forgot to snap a photo.)

Tuesday

When I really wanted the black denim Frame Le Vintage Bermuda shorts, but couldn’t pay $200 for them, I found an old pair of rarely-worn Everlane jeans in my closet and cut them into a suitable replacement. (Last week’s outfit roundup had another pair of sacrificed Everlane jeans; turns out I like their denim better as shorts?!)

I wore them on Tuesday with a black silk blouse and easy sandals, inspired by one of the outfits I loved from Net-a-Porter in this post. My camera blew out the details in the contrast so it kind of looks like I’m wearing a black wetsuit, but it was cute IRL. ;)

  • Acler Silk Blouse via Poshmark (paid $35)
  • Everlane black high waist jeans cut into bermuda shorts
  • Donald Pliner kitten heel slides via Poshmark (paid $13)

Wednesday

These Zara high waist straight jeans are like a denim girdle and I love ’em. Do I have to undo the top button in the car to relieve my ribcage so I can breathe while I drive? Maybe? It’s fine.

A note about Zara jeans: they’re a great budget option, but they run small. I’m wearing a size 30 in these, and they’re still snuggg. If you’re curvy, I recommend avoiding their slim fit styles. Keep in mind that 100% cotton jeans won’t have any forgiving stretch. And whatever you do – size up!

Thursday

Hmm. Not much to say about this one. Just an easy-breezy summer outfit of light neutrals.

A note: I want to be a woman who can wear a monochromatic white outfit in the summertime. My summer style Pinterest board is full of them. But alas, flower shop life + my general spill-prone clumsiness will not allow it.

  • Zara tank
  • Zara high waisted shorts
  • Amazon sunglasses
  • Donald Pliner lavender leather sandals via Poshmark
  • Italian leather bag

Friday

A clothing care tip: I just recently started bringing my button-down cotton shirts to the dry cleaner instead of washing them at home. I think it’s worth the expense to maintain the shirts’ structure and keep them looking crisp and starched over time. I figure if I take care of the staples I already have in my wardrobe, I won’t need to constantly buy replacements.

Even “budget-friendly” button-downs can be pricey — like $50 at Zara for minimal quality shirts — so I look for NWT (new with tags) options from good brands on Poshmark. I usually find them for $20-30, and they’re much better quality than fast-fashion options. My favorites are Talbots, Banana Republic, and Ralph Lauren.

  • Banana Republic button down (bought new secondhand)
  • Zara high waisted shorts
  • Calvin Klein leather mules (similar under $70)
